How to Read Universal Product Code (UPC) Barcodes?
The Universal Product Code (UPC) is a symbol used to track products in stores. Each product, even different sizes of the same product, has a unique barcode to identify it and allow it to be scanned at the point of sale. The most commonly used barcode is the 12-digit code. The code consists of bars which represent numbers.
Every UPC barcode has a series of numbers below a series of black or white bars which are separated by guard bars. The guard bars are two narrow strips that appear at either end of the code and also in the middle to separate the left and right 6-digit portions. Once you are able to “read” the bars, you can determine the numbers yourself!
Eager minds come in all shapes and forms, and when it comes to learning Mathematics, they’ll adapt to whatever works best for them. With this in mind, the Technomathematics Research Foundation (TMRF) was established in 1997 as an autonomous research body whose goal was to expand the field of applicable mathematics and computer science for those ready to learn. With education and research programmes conducted under the guidance of an international community of scientists, TMRF aims to bring young, intelligent thinkers together in a superior holistic approach to maths education.
